I saw Jame this past weekend here in Victoria. His team lost out in the playoffs in Switzerland and now he is back in his home town skating and working out. He said that he is under contract with St. Louis until the end of June. Couldn't the Blues ask him to come back to Worcester until the end of the playoffs?

The scary thing is the last truly good power play line the Cats had was Pellerin/Conroy/Shafranov....

....and that was for 5 games in 1996.

210 .. I agree with everrything you said. There are lots of problems, beginning with management, the guy behind the bench (Pleau) and of course a number of players have been underperforming. Hell, the website still has on the home page a large ad for "voting for the All-Star Team" and that ended 2 months ago. There is very little attention being paid to the IceCats by The Blues organization, and it shows!

I first started talking about the points on the PP when it started to falter in Dec and Granato was changing the fwds., but the "D" never changed. That was my issue ... make a change. Since then it has gone further downhill and still there has been NO change. That is why I have continued to mention M&W. It is not a personal issue, simply, when something isn't working (it's 4 months now) it should be addressed.

If Glumac and Pohl (of course they should have played him more) had stayed healthy, that would have helped a bunch. That's a lot of goals to give up ..Schotov (sp) was probably the most talented guy up front (although a ways away) and having him go back to Russia hurt too ...

I feel management has made a number of blunders this year and it is starting to show .....Larry Pleau better start watching the store or he won't be running it  much longer ..... After losing approx $28 million last year, the MOST in the NHL, he had better make some important and corrective decisions !!!

Actually, that's a swing of 22....

On 1/1 Disalvatore was (-2) and Brooks was +8.

Today Disalvatore is (-11) and Brooks, who at one point this season was +12, is (-5)

That's a swing of 21.

In the first 30 games Evans had 28 points. In the next 36 he had 10.

This team has lots of problems...to single out 2 players or to suggest that only the power play is an issue is sheer folly.

210 ....the plus/minus has nothing to do with the number of PPs. I was simply pointing out their overall contribution. They both have been given every possible opportunity to create offense for the IceCats, whether at even strength or on the PP .....Their minus play indicates a weakness and certainly a slippage from the first few months when they were both in the plus-10 area to where they are now in the minus-10 area. That's a swing of 20 to the negative.

My point on mentioning the 350 PPs is to show just how many opportunities they both have had to score points. Some will say "well, look how many points they have" and I say points are relative to ice time and in particular, quality ice time ..... Most everyone knows, you do not get a lot of points unless you are on the PP, and if you are on the PP you SHOULD get a lot of points. ...thanks.

Just curious, but what does Wideman and Mottau's plus/minus have to do with the number of power plays they've played on?

Virtuefan ... It's a good question and and at least you are asking it and wondering if anyone might be better than the present two. My real issue is that Pleau has NOT really tried anyone else for any length of time except M & W. If there are not 2 or 3 fwds who could fill in there, than the Icecats have a real lack of talented fwds. Senja would probably be the best of them......At least try!

Unfortunately, there are not many offensive minded "D' as you pointed out, but when something isn't working --change it.

Last year, although Pollock and Coleman played the majority of PP, Pleau did mix it up with Virtue, Brimanis, Mackenzie and eventually Byrne later in the season. Byrne ended up with 7 goals in the regular season and then 2 more in the playoffs for 9 goals; and ended up a zero in the plus/minus despite playing a limited amount all year, being sent down twice  and getting VERY little PP time. ...... Mottau has 4 goals and is a minus11, Wideman 11 goals and is a minus 10 and they have played over 350 Power Plays ----THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY POWER PLAYS!!

For some reason, Pleau never gave Byrne a chance and is reluctant to any change. If Byrne had been given a fair shot he would likely have at least as many as Wideman and continue to be a prospect ... His success last year deserved a better chance this year, especially when they have struggled so much .......To put Buckley out there as he did a few weeks ago, shows Pleau has no clue. Buckley has 11 goals in the last TEN YEARS, 4 of which were in college, six in the pros. Did Pleau really think Buckley was a PP guy????

Incidentally, someone mentioned that Wideman was a right-handed shot and that was less common, and therefore it gave him an edge. ...Of the NINE defensemen listed on the Cats, only 3 --Mottau, MacKenzie and Byrne are left shots; the other 6 are all right shots...So much for that argument..

PH - I have a question concerning the powerplay.  If you don't like Mottau and Wideman at the points, who do you suggest plays defence on the powerplay?  Only Trevor Bryne has another powerplay goal for defenceman and that is his lone goal for the season.  I know you are going to say that Mottau and Wideman get all the playing time, but all other defenceman have a combined 9 goals.  That includes Walker and Stuart.  Who do you put in for a defensive goal scorer?

Too bad..... he would be a HUGE help on the PP this year..a helluva improvement on Mottau and Wideman ...

Now that Jame's season in Switzerland is over why don't the Ice Cats bring him back for the rest of the year. He's still Blues property isn't he?
