Cash stepped up his game this weekend, and without him we would have lost both games. About Wideman, he played decent this weekend, and had the best hit of the season vs. Wilkes-Barre.

No decent defensemen?

Aaron MacKenzie? Mike Stuart? One could even argue that despite having a sub-par season season Brimanis could be called "decent".

Let's face it-the Cats don't have one decent defensive defenseman. Not one. I didn't see the Pens game but for the first time I sat behind Sanford in goal at the Norfolk game and it was brutal how many time the d-men turned it over, couldn't get it out of their end, and there were at least five times the puck was laying in front of a wide open crease. Whoever Worcester has in goal has to stand on their head just to keep them in the game.

I agree with Maxi and I am a huge Dennis Wideman fan, but I can't wait to see PH's response to this post.

I don't agree with some of the negative comments made about Dennis Wideman. Although admittedly,  he has been in a "slump" and will need to learn how to overcome it, he remains  a young, talented player with a variety of scoring moves. He is tough and has a hard accurate slap shot and has a good "wrister" as well.  He also skates well and in the early season, I thought that he charged up the ice a lot more than he seems to do now. Perhaps he's feeling  the pressure & trying too hard.  BTW, as the AHL remains a developmental league for the "Big Show", MAYBE some of the reasons why the coaches continue to give him a lot of ice time is because the Blues see him as having a lot of potential.

I hate to say it but at this point in the season I really don't mind if they fail to make the playoffs.  Its been a fun 10 years.  I know, any team can come up big in the play offs but realistically, how far could they go.  I would just as soon save my time and money and bid them farewell against Manchester in 17 days.  I also have to agree with Purple Heart.  Dreadfull powerplay that hasn't changed considerably all year.  ????????

Replay. Get off these guys backs. They are playing hurt, sore, disappointed and most off all against teams that have far more NHL talent. It was inevitable that this meltdown would happen. Again, as far as goaltending goes get off their backs. They probably see far more "scoring chances" than any other tenders in the division bar Springfield. I think it is a tribute to tending and systems that we are still in the hunt for a spot. You can only go so long on guts and then the brain says go but the body can't. Put yourselves in their shoes. The only sore part on most of us is our BUTTS from sitting in the seats.

I agree whole heartedly that the Cats are playing like you know what and we, as the true blue fans that we are look to be headed to early vacations. BUT......this is it folks, our Cats are leaving town.

To the guy in Sec.1113/117 who showed up in a Bruins jersey and chanted "Let's go Bruins", you are a typical fair weather fan. I've watched you over the years and you call yourself a fan? All that comes out of your mouth is: blah, blah, blah...... Why can't you for once, cheer on the Cats? True, they can be painful to watch sometimes. If you think it's so easy why don't you get out there and give it a go? Ever skate with goalie pads on? It ain't easy my friend.

I know this is a forum to discuss or vent about the Cats so I'm venting too. Let's cheer them on, painful as it is, as they ride off into the sunset......or in this case Peoria :(

The Blues and IceCats coaching staff isn't going to do anything, they are sjust playimng out these last few games and whatever happens happens.

Like Speed said, "dead team walking".

Let's see, six straight losses and no changes by the Iccats. Not in personnel nor style ....Steve Pleau is certainly not the answer and soon the team will be in Peoria with new ownership, coaches and players. Management would like to win but are doing nothing to help their own cause .

I predict neither Pleau nor Granato will be in coaching in Peoria ... and there will not be AHL in Worcester ...... Sad ending..

I am as big a fair weather fan as there is, but I have a hard time getting down on these guys.  They have been exceedingly nice to me and my son throughout the season in wins or losses by star or scratched player.   As others have mentioned, the talent level and the loss of continuity due to injury is really catching up to them.

I wish these guys the best of luck throughout the rest of their careers.

This team is ridiculous. There was one, (if not more) 45-second span where these guys looked like the 'Bad News Bears' on skates. They couldn't do anything right. Bacashihua was horrible and other than a select few players on the Ice; most had no business being out there. Give a team enough PPs and they eventually score which they did 3 times last night but overall this has to be the worst PP in the history of the game. Throw in the terrible officiating and there could be no other result than what we saw last night. Ten games left is certainly not the end of the road for this teams' playoff chances but a couple more performances like last night and the season will be over long before the last game is played.

From: greybrucehockey

Had the opportunity to converse with scouts for L.A., Anaheim, San Jose, and Pittsburgh at a recent junior game. They basically indicated that Worcester probably has the 6th most talented team in their division. Thus we are starting to see where we are going to finish. There is a point when 100% desire will NOT beat a team with 90% desire and 20% talent. Hate to keep reminding people that I stated Cats finish in 5th as early as last November.

Reality is starting to take affect. I don't think our tenders have been that bad all year. The difference is Cats give up far more better scoring chances despite our + side in most shot totals. We have too many PERIMETER players.

JMHO

I think that was a little harsh 210.  You know these guys are human just like everyone else and they have their good and bad nights.  You all put these guys up on pedestals but the second they make a mistake its suddenly "The worst goaltending effort you've seen from someone in  an Icecat's uniform."  I'd like to see you out there on the ice every week, whether sick or injured, and see you do a better job.

From: Purple_Heart   Purple_Heart is a registered live IceCat

Speed, your thinking is quite similar to mine. Stuart has done a respectable job on the wing and maybe he is needed there for defensive reasons. he also could could a reasonable job on "D", but in a limited capacity. ... Interestingly, you do not mind moving Wideman to fwd ..... I am not sure where I would use him but certainly not on "D" and not on the PP any longer.... Byrne would be a good call-up and put on the PP with Mottau or maybe MacKenzie .... Buckley, Walker and Brimmer are not PP guys. If all things are equal, I would go with the younger guys ... Mottau, Buckley and Brimmer are not "future" guys, so why not develop the younger ones? They certainly aren't playing worse.

From: Speed   Speed is a registered live IceCat
Date: 31-Mar-05
I thinki Stuart has done fine on the wing - better than I hoped. I hate these experiments with moving D-Men to forward. You play a certain position your whole career and then they move you around? How'd that work out for Virtue and Pollock? Stuart is a solid blue-liner. Wideman thinks offense most of the time and has been a defensive liability for the last 3-4 months. Right now, I'd move Wideman up, Stuart back, call Byrne back up, use him on the PP and hope he clicks with Mottau, and send down Maiser.

From: Purple_Heart   Purple_Heart is a registered live IceCat
Date: 31-Mar-05

Stuart does give 110% every night and he may not belong on wing, but he is also only an average defenseman, with little upside. .Pretty good defensively, but not talented offensively. Not the kind of guy you want on the point on the PP, if that is what you meant.

Nice to see others recognizing that Wideman is not the player people believed him to be a few months ago (well, last fall, really). He had a good start and Steve Pleau fell in love with him, but it's been downhill for months. He is a real liability on defense and his numbers have dropped dramatically ....was a plus-10 and now is a minus-16 and falling further... And, his offense is way off as well ...

Btw, I see that Byrne has played 26 games and is a PLUS-29, topping all defensemen in the ECHL. No reason he shouldn't be in Worcester at least adding some offense... Why they have a 24 year old prospect there when others are failing is totally foolish!!

Walker doesn't look too interested in being here. Skated away from things that he usually likes to get mixed up in. I think I want Wideman on offense and put Stuart back on the point.

From: Icecat110   Icecat110 is a registered live IceCat

The defense are giving away where they are passing it. The other team reads the pass and go in all alone. That was an awful game. Our forwards finally managed to put the puck in the net, but Brimanis and Wideman were horrible. Someone mentioned to me why McKenzie and Walker aren't on the power play. Maybe we should give them a shot. Also, why don't we have Stuart go back on D? Stuart has been giving 110% every night.

I thought I was gonna "croak" when the Bruins got a shorthanded goal after we had a long and exasperating  5 on 3 powerplay.

Maybe I don't get it.  Why do they go from side to side, side to side, over & over on a 5 on 3. Is it lack of confidence? waiting for the perfect opportunity or shot? hoping the other team will goof up somehow?  All the while the clock is ticking... and  they look like they don't know what to do except go from side to side, side to side, side to ..............!

"We are 5 big men, you are only 3. GET OUT OF OUR WAY!!"

agreed, "Cash" wasnt up to par, but i would not go as far to say "...the worst goaltending effort..."... on the PBruins 5th goal "Cash" made 2 saves before the puck went in, he should not have had to try to make a 3rd save... D should have been there (gosh, they should have been there to clear it to the corner before Cash made the 2nd save).

Yes, Bogy played with all heart. IMO, it seems that he played with more heart then the rest of the team combined last night. I hope that some of his energy out there somehow spread like the plague to the rest of the team. This weekend is a biggy!!

It's easy to jump on the goalie after a game like that and in fact Bacashihua did not play well at all. But the defensive breakdowns (3 breakaways, one of them shorthanded) were to numerous to mention. This was a true team effort, though I thought Bogy played his heart out!

Wideman, Brimanis and Mottau had horrible games, but watching Mr. floppy go down on goal #3 was like looking at a frog on the dissection table - all pinned down - just upside down. Either it was ZERO effort or ZERO clue. Regardless, they were all totally outclassed.

From: 210   210 is a registered live IceCat

His effort on those breakaways was terrible.

None of those moves was anything better than "average" and, to steal Speed's words, he looked like a disected frog on all three of them.

It was so bad it was painful to watch.
