Ducks end AHL affiliation

From: icecatsfan4ever

Things going for a team in Portland:

1. Rent is cheaper

2. No other AHL team around w/in 30 miles

3. Their city has an efficient AIRPORT which the players can utilize to get up and down in the leagues quickly.

I believe there will be an official announcement next week that the Mighty Ducks' affiliate will be Portland next season.

The Ducks are going to Portland.

I heard the Anaheim Ducks have looked at Portland as well as Worcester for next years AHL Team , and have visited both locations and are moving the team from Cincinati to either Worcester or Portland.

Worcester was considered the better location for the Ducks AHL Team, however the rent costs were far higher for the DCU Center and Coates from the Ducks thinks Portland was a more cost effective deal is the scoop I heard.

Has anyone heard any information on the Ducks plans for there AHL team, and possible location in Worcester?

Rumor has it that Anaheim will be the NHL affiliate of the Portland Pirates next season. Things do not look good for Cincinnati at the moment.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (CP) - The Anaheim Mighty Ducks have ended their affiliation agreement with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the American Hockey League, the team announced Monday.

The Cincinnati franchise has been affiliated with Anaheim since the 1995-96 season when it was known as the Baltimore Bandits. The team moved to Cincinnati in 1997.

"We would like to thank (Cincinnati CEO) Pete Robinson and his entire staff for their efforts over the last eight years," Anaheim senior vice president and interim general manager Al Coates. "We also thank the loyal hockey fans in Cincinnati for their support."

The AHL Ducks completed their second-best year in team history during the 2004-05 season, finishing 44-31-1-4 for 93 points, establishing a club-record for wins in a season. Over the last 57 games of the regular season, the club went 37-17-1-2, the third best record in the AHL over that stretch.

In the opening round of the playoffs, Cincinnati rallied from a 3-1 series deficit against the defending Calder Cup champion Milwaukee Admirals, winning the series in seven games. The Ducks were defeated by the Chicago Wolves in five games in the second round of the playoffs.

Over the past eight years, 51 players that played in the NHL for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim played in Cincinnati. The AHL Ducks qualified for the playoffs five times in their history.

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks will announce their affiliation plans at a later date.
