Frederic Cassivi - Hershey Bears

From: Linda   Linda is a registered live IceCat
Date: 17-Jun-06

Congratulations to Frederic Cassivi who was named the Calder Cup MVP after the Hershey Bears defeated the Milwaukee Admirals Thursday night in game 6 of the Calder Cup Finals!

Game 6 was not even close compared to game 5 Tuesday night in Hershey.  With the 2nd largest crowd ever at the Giant Center (10,807), people were standing on their feet cheering so loudly for about the last two minutes of the game as Hershey tried to maintain their 5-4 lead after the Milwaukee goalie was pulled.  Finally after Hershey got an open net goal, the crowd exploded into an even louder roar knowing the Bears were 1 game closer to clinching the Calder Cup.  It was by far one of the most exciting games we have ever been to & was well worth the trip to Chocolate Town to see this even though it was our 3rd trip there within about a month!

What was even nicer was the number of people who stopped us as we walked around the arena congratulating Worcester on getting an AHL team again!

What was nice, too, was that Giant Arena was open to Hershey fans for Game 6 (no admission or parking charge) so those who couldn't go to Milwaukee could watch the game on the jumbotron.  Over 6,000 people attended this!  Giant Arena was also open on Friday night for fans to go & celebrate with the Bears on their triumphant return with the Calder Cup.

Cassivi could pretty much run for Mayor of Hershey right about now. Among other colorful signs in the arena saturday night were a few reading "Only God saves more than Freddy."

Frederic Cassivi and the Hershey Bears won game 4 tonight (Sunday) forcing game 6 to return to Milwaukee this coming Thursday.  Cassivi had the lone assist on one of Hershey's goals tonight & was said to be a possible candidate for the MVP of the Calder Cup series if Hershey should win the Cup.

We hope to see game 5 in person at Hershey on Tuesday!   Jake Moreland,  former IceCat --- who can ever forget how he did his splits in warmups --- also plays for Milwaukee, but I believe as the 3rd goalie.  Game 5 should be the 3rd consecutive sellout in Hershey &  also  an exciting game ---- especially after watching the past two games on the B2 network!  We can't wait to see Jordan Tootoo play, also.  He threw a hit tonight on a Hershey player which caused the glass to pop out and was after Louie Robitaille (Herhsey), a player everyone loves to hate!

Congratulations to Frederic Cassivi in his role for advancing the Hershey Bears to the Calder Cup Finals.

We have seen Frederic in Hershey & Portland for most of the 7 games.  His save of the game for game 7 snatching a puck out of mid air in a split second gave Hershey the momentum it needed when it went into overtime to win the Eastern Conference title.

While we are very disappointed we aren't traveling to Portland to see the Calder Cup championship, we wish Hershey the best and hope to see another Calder Cup game there.

We have met many nice people in both cities as we traveled to watch the playoff games, also stopping along the way in Wilkes-Barre. We will miss seeing our Wilkes-Barre friends next season but hope to travel there perhaps to see them play another team. Thank you Kaleena (Portland), Paul (Hershey) & Carol (Wilkes-Barre) for the time we have been able to spend with you during the playoff season & talk hockey!
